Conspiracy theorist Micha K may face extradition from Northern Ireland

Conspiracy theorist Micha Kat, who lives in Northern Ireland, may be extradited to face charges of making threats against RIVM chief Jaap van Dissel, Dutch media report.

Kat was arrested on Wednesday at the request of the Dutch prosecution office and will appear before a Northern Irish judge on August 7.

If extradited, Kat will face charges of threatening Van Dissel and Bodegraven-Reeuwijk mayor Christiaan van der Kamp as well as others. Kat is said to be one of the people behind the Red Pill Journal which spreads conspiracy theories via social media.

In June fellow conspiract theorist Wouter R was sentenced to nine months in jail for spuriously connecting Van Dissel with ritual child abuse in Bodegraven in the 1980s. Believers even put flowers on the graves of young people they alleged were victims of the abuse, prompting the local authorities and distraught parents to take legal action.

Kat, who has convictions for criminal damage and false bomb alerts, still has a six month sentence outstanding in the Netherlands for libeling NOS and Telegraaf journalists.
