Prosecutors hold 32 over Overasselt attack, including two minors

Public prosecutors are detaining 32 people on suspicion of murder or manslaughter in connection with the killing of a security guard in Overasselt on Tuesday.

Thirty-four people were initially arrested in the area surrounding the Gelderland village but two were released as there was insufficient evidence to hold them. CCTV footage shows dozens of masked men getting out of a truck outside the property, some heavily armed, before one shoots a man sitting in a car.

They also opened fire on police shortly afterwards, injuring two. Of those arrested, two are minors aged 16 and 17, the rest are men from France, Netherlands, Algeria, Libya, Belgium and Ukraine – all aged between 18 and 32.

Footage emerged online after the attack purportedly by a drugs gang, threatening the resident of the property that was attacked and saying that he had stolen a large quantity of goods from them.

That man, known as Jan G. Jr, has been barred from entering the council around Overasselt for at least two weeks and will not be allowed back to live in the property for at least a year.

He has been linked to the drugs trade before and the house was shot at last year with an AK-47 by a young man from Amsterdam, said to be a drug addict who was paid to carry out the attack. He never named who paid him.
