MPs fear credit crisis effect on eco policy
MPs from the coalition Christian Democrats and Labour parties are concerned about the possible effects of the credit crisis on the government’s climate and energy policy, reports Tuesday’s Telegraaf.
The MPs have asked environment minister Jacqueline Cramer to investigate the new situation.
A report by the energy research centre, economic planning unit and environmental assessment agency is already expected in December but according to Cramer this report is only a first look at the situation.
A final report detailing firm measures per sector is not expected until April 2009 but parliament wants the December report to reflect the effects of the financial crisis.
Labour MP Diederik Samsom told Cramer she should ‘take more initiative on her policy’. Samsom expects a fall in investment in sustainable energy because of the crisis.
An initial analysis by the environmental assessment agency and the energy research centre has already pointed out that the fall in CO2 emissions and the percentage of sustainable energy in 2011 and 2020 will be less than expected, says the Telegraaf.
