Heavy rain and strong winds brought down trees and caused traffic problems in some parts of the Netherlands as storm Bella crossed the country on Sunday morning.

The KNMI weather bureau had issued a code yellow weather, saying winds of up to 110 kph could hit coastal regions at the height of the storm.

The wind will die down in the afternoon.

On Sunday night the temperature will drop to around zero in places, and conditions could be slippery on some roads. Monday there will be more rain, with up to 30 millimetres falling in places.

After Monday, it will become drier and less windy but there will be little in the way of sunshine until after New Year at least. According to the KNMI weather bureau, it will remain chilly and overcast with light frosts possible at night.
