Amsterdam police on Tuesday appealed for help in finding Scottish man Matthew McCombe who vanished on March 14 after leaving his hotel at 6.15am.

McCombe, said to be the grandson of Celtic football legend Billy McNeill, was in the Dutch capital to celebrate his 21st birthday and was staying at the Novotel hotel on the edge of Buitenveldert.

He left the hotel carrying a can of beer, leaving his phone and cash behind. ‘He was last seen on the Amsteldijk near the Berlage bridge at 06.44 and was wearing the same clothes as in the photo,’ police said.

The police are urging anyone who saw the young man to contact them on 0800-6070.
