Amsterdam civil servant linked to nearly 100 violent incidents

A 57-year-old Amsterdam council employee accused of corruption has been linked to at least 95 violent incidents across the Netherlands, prosecutors told a court during a preliminary hearing on Friday.
The man, named as Jim B, is suspected of selling confidential information to two alleged accomplices, 41-year-old Rishi K and 34-year-old Gillian H, whom the prosecution described as “information brokers”.
They are thought to have passed on the data to criminal groups responsible for a series of bombings, shootings and other attacks.
According to prosecutors, the trio were indirectly connected to 36 explosions, 14 threatening or bullet-ridden letters, eight homes being shot at, two attempted murders and one kidnapping. The attacks took place across the country.
B, who lives in Almere and worked in Amsterdam’s debt collection department, had access to address, vehicle registration and resident information through the council’s own systems.
He reportedly shared data hundreds of times a month, including at night and during holidays, and communicated with his contacts via the encrypted messaging app Privnote.
Prosecutors said there was no evidence that B acted under pressure, as claimed by his lawyer, who argued her client “made mistakes under pressure from a group”. Investigators say he received both cash and bank transfers in exchange for the information.
All three suspects remain in custody. The next hearing is scheduled for 14 January.
