The public prosecution department and police are investigating a further 20 possible abuse cases against Jan B, the 66-year-old man arrested for molesting 13 children in his care, according to the Parool.

Publicity surrounding his arrest led to some 20 new reports which are now being looked into, the department said on Wednesday, when B appeared in court for a remand hearing.

B was caught abusing a child while working as a substitute daycare assistant at a Partou daycare centre in Amsterdam Oost at the end of last year. He had been offering his services as a care professional since 2023, the Parool said earlier.

B, who also taught at a further education college and is a former Almere town councillor, described himself on his website as a  “caretaker”, offering “pedagogical support”, including to children with developmental problems, autism and Down syndrome.

A search of the man’s phone and computer turned up images of B sexually assaulting an autistic boy who was 13 at the time.

The public prosecution office has since accused B of making pornographic photographs of two other children – a baby and a three-year-old boy – and taking nude photographs of nine others.

He is now known to have worked as a substitute care assistant at 14 different locations belonging to the Partou daycare group on a total of 18 days over the past two years. He also worked at the Kindergarden daycare company, the paper said.

Parents with children at the centres have criticised the lack of information from Partou about the case, which has since apologised.

B, who described the allegations made against him as “surprising” has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again on May 12.
