Dutch teenager arrested after fight with Israelis is released

The 15-year-old boy arrested after a fight between locals and Israeli tourists at a Center Parcs holiday camp has been released from police custody after a short court hearing, officials said on Monday.

The teenager was picked up after a fight broke out between two groups of people playing paintball at the park in Noord Brabant province. Two Israeli men, aged 37 and 41, were injured.

The boy is facing charges but will be allowed to wait for the investigation to finish at home, the public prosecution department said.

While there were reports that the scrap between the two groups involved “discriminatory statements”, the people involved and witnesses have been interviewed and there is “no independent verification” that this is the case, the department said in a statement.

The fight has been widely reported in the foreign press as an example of anti-Israeli violence.

The Israeli foreign ministry said on social media the Dutch government should “ come to its senses and act resolutely to prevent attacks on Israelis in its territory, to locate the criminals and to bring them to justice.”
