Man shot dead in Amstelveen was a known blackmailer

The man shot dead in Amstelveen yesterday in what police suspected was a gangland killing has been named by Dutch media as Israeli national Itzhak Meiri.

Meiri was known to have gang connections and was sentenced to 6.5 years in jail in 2008 for blackmail.

According to the Telegraaf, Meiri, 56, had been warned by police several times that he stood on a death list and had a reputation as being a ‘strong arm’ as well as a blackmailer.

Meiri described himself on LinkedIn as chief financial officer for cosmetics firm Sea of Love, which is based on products from the Dead Sea.
