A Dutch national who flew to the US to sexually abuse a 6-year-old girl has been jailed for four years, after which he will be sent to a secure psychiatric unit.

The 37-year-old had persuaded the mother to cooperate in her child’s abuse and send photographs to him. He also took screen shots and photographs during Skype calls with the mother, whom he met online.

Police were led to the man, named as Guus P, following a New Zealand investigation into child porn, which included some photos of the girl. The girl’s mother is currently under investigation in the US.

Judges in The Hague ruled that P showed signs of diminished responsibility and so should be sent to a psychiatric unit for treatment after his time in jail.
