Police have received nine tips about the dumping of a human head outside a cafe in Amsterdam earlier this year following the broadcast of new footage in a television crime show.

Opsporing Verzocht showed footage of a Volkswagen van containing the headless corpse of Nabil Amzieb bursting into flames in the city’s Zuidoost district. A day later, Amzieb’s head was found outside a water pipe cafe in Amsterdam Zuid.

An earlier programme showed footage of a man walking to the cafe carrying a rubbish bag containing the head. That generated dozens of tips but no major breakthrough in the case.

Police have issued a €20,000 reward for information leading the arrest of the killer.

Amzieb was said to be a relatively small player in the Amsterdam underworld. His murder is considered to be part of the escalation of a turf war between rival drugs gangs.
