Driver in bungled Amsterdam arrest video is picked up after all

Dutch police badge and radio walkie talkieAn armed man who drove off at high speed as police fired warning shots at his car has been arrested in Amsterdam.

The 18-year-old was picked up in the west of the capital, where he had been hiding since last week’s high-profile incident in the Osdorp district. Police said the teenager, named as Luciano D, had escaped from a secure psychiatric unit while on a supervised visit to a funeral at the end of last year.

He was being held in the youth detention centre in Lelystad for threatening behaviour and attempted armed robbery.

Amateur video of the bungled arrest on Thursday shows three men leaving the car after it is surrounded by armed police.

The driver, now known to be D, sped away as four officers ran to their police car to give chase, leaving two of the three other men free to flee the scene.

Police said D had been injured by a gunshot during the bungled arrest.
