Amsterdam has the Netherlands’ most expensive car parks

Car parking fees and permits will generate some €660m for Dutch local government this year, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.

Amsterdam is set to be the biggest earner, with €162m in income from parking charges this year, the CBS said.

Other research from the Dutch retail association on Wednesday shows the average cost of a car park is now €2.73, but that prices have risen 26% over the past four years. In total, 155 of the country’s 403 local authority areas levy parking charges.

The capital also has the country’s five most expensive car parks, with the Bijenkorf car park at Dam Square and the nearby Kolk car park costing €5.71 per hour.
