Boy, 15, arrested for selling elephant tusks, cheetah hide

A 15-year-old boy from Eindhoven has been arrested on suspicion of trading in ivory and skins from protected species, police said on Friday.

Police say they were tipped off from abroad that elephant tusks and other items were being offered for sale on the internet by a Dutch national. The investigation led to the youth in the Woensel-Noord area of the city.

Police found two elephant tusks, the hide of what is thought to be a cheetah and a stuffed tiger cub at the boy’s home. He was unable to provide any documents showing he had the items legally and was arrested.

All the items, plus computers found at the house, have been taken for further investigation.
