Doctors withdraw legal threat against electronic patient records
Family doctors have withdrawn their legal action against the organisation responsible for introducing electronic patient records after it withdrew the requirement that doctors cooperate with the new system.
Insurers had made supporting the new system a condition of next year’s contracts with family doctors. Without a contract, doctors are effectively stopped from working for patients with health insurance.
Both family doctors’ organisations were opposed to the new system but only the smaller VPH had threatened to go to court.
The new electronic records system is due to come into effect in January but has been beset by problems so far.
