Top sport needs more priority: report

Top sport in the Netherlands is going backwards compared to other countries, research carried out by Utrecht university for the Dutch Olympic Committee shows.

Top performers in sports say they want to be supported by the very best people but they often have a fight on their hands with their association if they want to choose their own coach or physiotherapist.
They also want more training time. For instance, swimmers and skaters often have to share a pool or rink with the general public and water polo players can only use a pool late at night.
Top performers and coaches say there should be more use of science in Dutch sport. The Netherlands does not have an institute for sport and science unlike other countries such as Australia, Germany and the UK.
