Olympics: Gold for Kromowidjojo
Swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the gold medal in the 100 metre freestyle at the Aquatics Centre in London.
The 21-year-old’s time of 53 seconds also set a new Olympic record.
After the race, Kromowidjojo said she did not think her swim was perfect but ‘gold is gold’.
Prince Willem-Alexander, who was in the audience with his wife Máxima, congratulated the woman from Groningen, calling her ‘queen Kromo’.
On Friday, Kromowidjojo competes in the 50 metre freestyle.
Her win puts the Netherlands in 13th place in the medals table, with two gold, one silver and two bronze.
