Olympics: Dutch team greeted by thousands of supporters

The Dutch Olympics team arrived back in the Netherlands by special train from London on Monday afternoon to be given a hero’s welcome in Den Bosch.

Thousands of people turned out to welcome back the Dutch sports men and women, who brought home six gold, six silver and eight bronze medals.
The Netherlands ended in 13th place in the medals table, one below the Beijing Olympics. However, the total medal haul was higher than the target.

Meanwhile, according to a poll for RTL news, the Dutch have become more positive about the idea of hosting the Olympics themselves.
Some 47% of the 600 people polled said they supported efforts to bring the games to Amsterdam in 2028. An earlier poll for the sports ministry showed there was only 30% support.
The government will decide in 2016 if the Netherlands should compete to host the 2028 Olympics, 100 years after they were first held in Amsterdam.
