The Netherlands to share IMF seat with Belgium
The Netherlands is to share a seat on the board of the International Monetary Fund with Belgium as part of a revamp of the organisation to increase the role of developing countries, news agency ANP reports on Friday.
At the moment, both countries have their own seat. Poland and Switzerland agreed earlier to join forces.
In addition, the Netherlands and Belgium will continue to represent the interests of other countries, as they both currently do. The Netherlands will supply the first board member and a Belgian will take over in four year’s time.
The two countries will also take it in turns to send delegates to meetings of finance ministers and central bank chiefs, ANP quoted finance minister Jan Kees de Jager as saying.
