Statistics say the Netherlands should pick up six Olympic golds
The Netherlands should win six gold, seven silver and six bronze medals at the London Olympics, based on the country’s performance at previous games.
At recent Olympics, the Netherlands has picked up almost 2% of the golds, 2.36% of the silver and 2.16% of the bronze medals, according to calculations by Trouw.
Earlier this week, US magazine Sports Illustrated put the Dutch haul on five gold, four silver and seven bronze, while USA Today forecasts six gold, five silver and seven bronze.
Groningen University has come up with the most optimistic forecast, Trouw says: eight gold, eight silver and seven bronze.
According to Trouw, the main Dutch medal hopes are:

• Men’s hockey team
• Women’s hockey team
• Henk Grol (judo)
• Teun Mulder (track cycling, Keirin)
• Lobke Berkhout en Lisa Westerhof (sailing)
• Epke Zonderland (gynmastics)
• Churandy Martina (athletics 200m)
• Femke Heemskerk (sailing )
• Guillaume Elmont (judo)
