Venus crossing the sun only seen in far north

Heavy cloud and rain stopped most of the Netherlands witnessing the planet Venus moving across the sun in the very early hours of Wednesday morning.

But skywatchers in the far north of Groningen and Wadden islands were able to glimpse the rare astronomical event which will not be seen again for another 105 years.
Disappointed skywatchers in Utrecht followed the event on a big screen. ‘It was a bit like a Euro 2012 football match with the big screen and experts explaining what was going on,’ astronomer Robert Wielinga told news agency ANP.
