Dutch households spent 2% less in April

Dutch household spending fell 2% in April, compared with a year ago, as the economic crisis continues to bite, the national statistics office CBS said on Friday.

Consumer spending has now fallen every month for almost a year, the CBS said. Earlier this week, the statistics office said consumer confidence was at a 10-year low.
Spending on clothes, shoes, furnishings and family cars was particularly hard hit but there was a slight increase in spending on domestic appliances.
