‘Van der Sloot may face Holloway murder charges in US’
Convicted murder Joran van der Sloot may face charges in connection with the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway if he is sent to the US, the Huffington Post reported on Thursday.
A Peruvian court will soon decide whether to allow Van der Sloot to be extradited to the United States on charges of extortion in the Holloway case.
But international defence expert Michael Griffith told the website: ‘With all the bad guys running around… do you really think the US is going to go after every guy who tries to extort money from a US citizen? Absolutely not. The US wants to get hold of him and charge him with Holloway’s murder.’
Van der Sloot was indicted by a US court in June 2010, for soliciting money from Beth Holloway in exchange for information about her daughter, who disappeared on a trip to Aruba in 2005. Van der Sloot, the last person to be seen with the girl, has twice been arrested in connection with the disappearance.
