Shipbuilding sector sheds 3,000 jobs
Dutch shipbuilding and maritime services companies have lost 3,000 jobs since 2010, the sector association Scheepsbouw Nederland says in Thursday’s Financieele Dagblad.
In 2011, the sector booked total sales of €6.2bn, €1bn down on 2010, while the workforce fell from 33,000 to 30,000, the paper said.
Despite the economic woes, Dutch shipyards and suppliers have managed to more or less maintain their position in a very competitive global market, the organisation said.
