Minister questioned over Dutch ambassador to Albania
Foreign minister Uri Rosenthal has been asked to comment on a discussion in Albania about the Dutch ambassador’s support for homosexuality, Nos television reports.
Henk van den Dool reportedly made comments in support of homosexuality during a television broadcast and the leader of the right-wing PLL, Ekrem Spahui, now says he should be deported.
Spahui is also deputy defence minister in the Albanian government. According to local news agency SOT, Albanian prime minister Sali Berisha said in a statement that Spahia’s comments are ‘totally unacceptable’.
Van den Dool made the comments after a cycle ride in support of gay rights was attacked by protestors throwing fireworks.
MPs from the Liberal democrats D66 have asked Rosenthal for clarification of the incident.
