IQ test for household help dropped

Plans to restrict the provision of household help to people with a light mental handicap have been dropped, Nos television reported on Thursday.

The government had planned to stop people with an IQ of between 70 and 85 from claiming special help under the AWBZ care system. The aim of the measure was to save €250m a year.
The plan had been heavily criticised by mental health experts.
The decision to drop the plan formed part of the five-party agreement on next year’s spending plans. The entire package will be sent to parliament on Friday.
