Eight supermarket bosses arrested on tax evasion charges
Eight men aged 43 to 62 from the Rotterdam area have been arrested after a string of raids on private homes and supermarket branches.
Six of the eight are former franchise holders for the Super de Boer supermarket chain, the public prosecution department said in a statement.
The men are suspected of defrauding the tax office out of at least €1.5m through false accounting. Tax inspectors stumbled across the fraud after finding irregularities in the book-keeping of one Super de Boer franchise holder and extended their investigation to other branches.
According to Nos television, customers in the shops at the times of the raids were told to leave their shopping and immediately vacate the stores.
