Dutchman who set himself on fire in Jakarta dies
The 69-year-old Dutchman who set himself on fire outside the Dutch embassy in Jakarta last week has died of his injuries, the foreign ministry confirmed on Thursday.
The man, who is thought to have psychiatric problems, apparently believed he was being targeted by the Dutch and Indonesian security services in connection with terrorist attacks in Bali.
He consequently refused to share his address with the Dutch authorities which led to his pension being withdrawn. Nos television reported at the weekend the man had threatened to commit suicide because he had no money to take care of his wife and children.
