Groningen has highest jobless rate, Rotterdam tops city list
The northern province of Groningen has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 7.3%, while Rotterdam tops the big city jobless list, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.
In the Netherlands as a whole, the jobless total averaged 5.4% last year, the CBS said.
Zeeland has the lowest provincial unemployment rate at 3.7%.
In terms of the four big cities, Rotterdam has the most people without a job at 9.5%, followed by The Hague, where the jobless total rose from 6.8% to 8.3% over the year.
Amsterdam’s unemployment total rose slightly to 7% while just 5% of the population of Utrecht are out of work, the CBS said.
