Stop Queen’s Day beer sales – one can per person, says mayor

Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan is considering restricting supermarket beer sales to one can per person on Queen´s Day in an effort to cut down on drunken behaviour, local television station RTV Noord-Holland reports.

Admitting it would be impossible to police such a demand, the mayor said if supermarkets do not act reasonably in terms of alcohol sales, they will not be allowed to open at all on Queen´s Day (April 30) next year.
The mayor already announced a string of measures in December to reduce the effect of Queen´s Day in the capital. All outdoor events must now end by 20.00 hours rather than 21.00.
