Slippery conditions on the A12 between Arnhem and the German border led to an 18-vehicle pile-up on Tuesday night, Nos television reports.

The road was closed for a time as police and emergency service workers worked to clear the scene. In total, 22 people were injured, one seriously, police said.
Motoring organisations had warned of black ice in the east of the country.
