Work on Stedelijk stopped as main builder goes bankrupt
Work on rebuilding Amsterdam’s modern art Stedelijk Museum has been halted following the threatened bankruptcy of principle contractor Midreth.
All 120 workers have left the site. The revamped museum, with a large new wing, is due to reopen later this year.
According to the Parool, Rabobank and two other parties have applied to have Midreth declared bankrupt. The paper said it is not yet clear what the financial consequences of the bankruptcy will be.
The capital’s Rijksmuseum and maritime museum are also closed for renovations, both of which have gone over budget and run into delays.
