Silver and bronze for Dutch women in world sprint skating

Annette Gerritsen and Margot Boer took silver and bronze at the world speed skating sprint championships in Heerenveen at the weekend. Canada’s Christine Nesbitt took gold.

The sprint event takes place over two days and involves skaters taking part in a 500 metre and a 1,000 metre race each day.
The Dutch men were outside the medals, with gold and silver going to South Korea. Highest placed was Stefan Groothuis who came fourth. Groothuis was disqualified from one event for crossing the centre line and then later reinstated.
