School firm on headscarf ban
A Catholic high school in Volendam is to continue its policy of banning girls from wearing Islamic headscarves, despite the equal opportunities commission’s ruling that this is discriminatory.
The school said in a statement that: ‘Any expression of a religion other than Catholicism remains banned, no matter what form it takes.’
The commission’s findings are not binding, but can be used in court.
