Pay ceiling for school and university chiefs

School and university heads are to face a salary ceiling of €223.666 a year and schools which pay staff more will have the money clawed back, according to new education ministry plans.

The pay cap means school heads will give a good example to teachers, who are facing a pay freeze, education minister Marja Bijsterveldt said.
According to the Telegraaf, 55 school and university heads earned more than €188,000 last year. That is 130% of a government minister’s salary, excluding expenses and pension contributions, which add up to the new pay ceiling.
Last November, Delft University of Technology was ordered to repay €19,000 after breaking the guidelines on executive pay.
