Most people save money to build up a buffer

Most Dutch people save money to build up a buffer for financially more difficult times, such as retirement or unemployment, according to research by Friesland Bank.

Some two-thirds of 1,000 people polled who have at least €5,000 in savings said this was the main reason for putting cash to one side. But 31% of them have no clue how much interest they are earning.
The other main reason for building up savings is to spend on holidays, the bank said.
