January was ‘mild and sunny’

With an average temperature of 3.5 Celsius, compared with a seasonal average of 2.8 Celsius, January was mild and sunny.


Yet helped by the tail-end of the heavy frost period at the beginning of the month, there were 16 frosty days, compared with an average of 13, the KNMI weather bureau said on Monday.
There were also 67 hours of sunshine, compared with 52 in the average January. Coastal areas were the sunniest, with 80 hours recorded on the Wadden island of Terschelling.
