Four in 10 domestic violence victims are male: report
Four out of 10 victims of domestic violence in the Netherlands are male, according to new research on behalf of the justice and health ministries, Trouw reports on Friday.
The research, due to be published later on Friday, claims more than 200,000 people are the victims of serious domestic violence every year and that almost two thirds of abusers are also victims.
Men account for 83% of abusers and in two thirds of cases the abuse is between partners or former partners. Parents are responsible for 20% of abuse.
‘This is more evidence that violence in the home is a complex problem, surrounded by fear, shame and embarrassment,’ the paper says.
