Fewer illegal fireworks intercepted

The number of illegal fireworks intercepted on their way to the Dutch market dropped this year from over 200,000 kilos to just over 90,000 kilos, the public prosecution department announced on Thursday.

A spokesman said the decrease was due to tough controls on the import of illegal fireworks in 2010, citing the arrest and trial of two large-scale dealers. ‘We think this played a part in the drop in imports,’ a spokesman told the Telegraaf.
