Fewer firework injuries but more hospital stays

The number of people treated in hospital for firework-related injuries during the New Year celebrations fell 9% on the 2009/2010 festivities to 710, news agency ANP reports.

The biggest fall was in youngsters aged 15 to 19 being treated. However, more people had to stay overnight because of the trend towards more powerful fireworks.
Three people died in firework-related incidents.
