Ajax star striker Luis Suarez is moving to Liverpool for €26.5m, making him the third most expensive player in the Amsterdam club’s history behind Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
‘Liverpool Football Club announced this afternoon that they had agreed a fee of up to €26.5m (£22.8 million) with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suarez, subject to the completion of a medical,’ the English premier league side said in a statement.
Uruguayan Suarez joined Ajax from Groningen in summer 2007. He played 159 official matches for the club, scoring 111 points. Last season he was premier league top scorer with 35 goals.
Ajax posted a loss of nearly €23m last season.
