Schiphol airport returns to normal, long jams on the roads

Air traffic to and from Schiphol airport began to return to normal on Monday although some flights still face delays, a spokewoman said.

Up to 100 stranded passengers spent Sunday night in the departure lounges because of problems with their onward journeys or because they did not have a visa.
The situation is also improving in other European airports, meaning holiday traffic can finally get under way.

Roads and railways

On the roads, the ANWB motoring organisation reports long traffic jams, despite the holidays.
And public transport is resuming in the south, where it had been hit hard by the snow.
Dutch Rail (NS) is running reduced services but there are no significant delays, according to the NS website.
