NS needs 13 years to make Fyra profitable

Dutch Rail (NS) does not expect to make a profit from its national high speed train service Fyra until 2024, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday.

The paper bases its claims on an interview with NS Hispeed commercial director Maarten Spaargaren. At the moment, the service is attracting too few passengers to cover its costs, Spaargaren told the paper.
The Fyra service cuts the journey time between Rotterdam and Amsterdam by 20 minutes. A standard ticket costs €7.40 more than the ordinary train.
