Minister pledges more police officers to work on child porn cases

Junior justice minister Fred Teenven said on Thursday he wanted to see an extra 75 police officers made available to reduce the backlog of child pornography cases.


There are almost 1,000 cases awaiting investigation, Teeven told MPs during a debate.
A number of MPs asked the minister if the money being spent on 500 ‘animal cops’ to investigate animal cruelty cases could not be better spent on solving child porn cases. The minister assured MPs that the animal cops will also be available for other duties.
