Lots of reports but no real terrorist attacks last year

Last year, the government’s racism and extremism monitor received nearly 400 reports of possible terrorist threats but none led to an actual attack, the organisation said on Wednesday.

Among the perceived threats was a grenade which turned out to be part of a child’s bike tooter and a suspicious suitcase full of dirty sports gear, the Volkskrant said.
The monitor also says that the number of instances of racist and extreme-right wing violence fell sharply last year. In particular, violence against Muslims has gone down, the organisation said.
According to the national security organisation AIVD, this is because ‘the recruitment draw of the far right has been reduced because established national political parties have put some of their standpoints on the agenda,’ the Volkskrant said.
