Immigration minister will ‘look again’ at deportation of 14-year-old

Immigration minister Gerd Leers told MPs on Wednesday he will look again at the case of a 14-year-old girl who faces deportation to Afghanistan along with her family.

The Hbrahimgel family came to the Netherlands 10 years ago and has been turned down for asylum three times.
Family and friends argue that Sahar’s life will be ruined if she is forced to go back. The girl, who wants to be a surgeon, cannot read or write the local language and will also face problems because of her western lifestyle, they say.
All the opposition parties have urged Leers to reconsider the case. And GroenLinks MP Tofik Dibi urged CDA parliamentarians to show their support as well. The government has a majority of just one in parliament, thanks to the support of the anti-Islam PVV.
The family’s supporters say slow immigration service procedures are one reason the case has taken so long to process.
