Dutch Farc guerilla indicted for kidnapping
A US court has indicted Dutch Farc guerrilla Tanja Nijmeijer for her role in the kidnapping of three American contractors in 2003.
Nijmeijer is accused of hostage-taking and ‘conspiracy to provide support to terrorists’, the BBC reports. Seventeen other Farc rebels have also been indicted.
The court says Nijmeijer was part of a group of Farc rebels who kidnapped three American contractors when their plane crashed. They were freed in 2008 alongside a number of other hostages, including former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.
Nijmeijer, 32, joined the Farc in 2002. She was recently recorded on camera as saying she will stay with the movement until her death.
