Over €3bn was donated to Netherlands-based charities last year, up €100m on 2008, according to the Dutch charity fund raising bureau.

And 288 of the 866 registered charities were given a further €1.45bn in government subsidies, the organisation said.
Nevertheless, the cost of raising money for charity is going up and this could mean they will have less to spend over the coming years.
