Burqa ban may affect carnival masks

Government plans to ban the fundamentalist Islamic robe known as the burqa may also affect other face-covering garments such as carnival masks, home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner told MPs on Thursday evening.

‘I am drafting legislation on face-covering clothing which will apply to all Dutch nationals,’ the minister is quoted as saying in the Telegraaf.
‘We still have to decide how far we will go to deal with motorbike helmets, carnival costumes and balaclavas during the Elfstentocht [skating race],’ the minister said.
