Arts minister considers new funding system

Junior culture minister Halbe Zijlstra is considering setting up a new system for subsidising the arts and culture, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

The paper says a new system may be made necessary by the government’s decision to slash €200m from arts spending next year.
The plan will be discussed at Friday’s cabinet meeting.
The paper says the minister wants to extend the current subsidy period by one year to 2014 to make sure there is enough time to implement a new system.
